Grandma O's Stuffed Cabbage Recipe
- 1 sm. head cabbage
- 1 pound grnd beef
- 2 med. onions, finely minced
- 1 (15 ounce.) can tomato sauce, divided
- 1/2 c. cooked rice
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tbsp. brown sugar, packed
- Cut core from cabbage and scald, either in a large pot of boiling water or possibly in the microwave on HIGH for 4 to 5 min.
- Remove ten leaves, and cut out hard center rib.
- Crumble grnd beef into a medium bowl.
- Add in onions, half the tomato sauce, rice, and seasonings; mix.
- To stuff cabbage, place beef-rice filling in cabbage leaf; roll up folding edges in.
- Arrange seam side down in a baking dish.
- Blend remaining tomato sauce with brown sugar and vinegar.
- Pour over rolls.
- Cover and cook in standard oven for about 1 hour or possibly in the microwave on MEDIUM 28-30 min.
- Let stand covered for 5 min before serving.
- Yield 4 servings.
