Grammy Linda's Tuna Melt
- 4 potato buns (like Martin's Potato Sandwich Rolls) or 4 hamburger buns or 4 English muffins
- 2 (6 ounce) cans solid white tuna packed in water
- 34 cup mayonnaise
- 1 stalk celery, chopped (11 inches long )
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- salt & pepper, to taste
- 2 tomatoes, sliced horizontally
- 8 slices American cheese
- Split rolls in half horizontally; and brown under broiler or on skillet.
- Place rolls cut side up on a cookie sheet pan and set aside.
- Mix the 5 tuna salad ingredients.
- Refrigerate until ready to make the sandwiches.
- Horizontally slice tomatoes of choice.
- Divide tuna salad into 8 portionsl and place each portion atop a browned roll half.
- Top each with i-2 slices tomato.
- Top each with a slice of cheese.
- Turn on your oven broiler and place pan of sandwiches 4 inches below broiling element.
- Watch carefully and remove when cheese melts to your satisfaction.
- ( I do not care for charred or brown cheese; so I remove as soon as cheese drapes over the tomatoes.)
- Serve immediately.
- Yum!
- Tip: For a large group, the sandwiches may be compiled several hours before needed and broiled right before serving.
