Himmel und Erde (German mashed potatoes) Recipe gringogidget

  1. Place the potatoes into cold, salted water with caraway seeds.
  2. Bring to a boil.
  3. When the potatoes start boiling, set a timer for 10 minutes.
  4. Add the apples when the 10 minute mark hits.
  5. Fry bacon, heat up milk.
  6. Add the butter to the milk to melt.
  7. When you insert a knife into the potato and it falls off back into the water by itself, its done.
  8. Strain and allow the potatoes and apples to dry a bit.
  9. Return to waterless pot and let dry for 2 minutes.
  10. Add the hot milk/butter, sugar and bacon bits.
  11. Mash and season with salt and pepper.
