Donna's Baked French Onion Soup Recipe
- 4 to 5 c. sliced onions
- 4 tbsp. butter
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 tbsp. flour
- 6 slices Swiss cheese (or possibly more)
- 2 1/2 c. water
- 2 cans Campbell's beef broth bouillon
- 1/2 c. sherry (any kind)
- Toasted French bread, sliced
- Campbell's is the secret!
- Saute/fry onions in butter for 10 min.
- Add in salt, sugar, and flour; stir till mixed.
- Stir in water, sherry, and beef broth; simmer 10 min after bringing to a boil.
- Place sliced bread in 275 degree oven for 10 min, turning and toasting after 5 min (watch carefully).
- Ladle soup into overnware bowls, placing slice of bread and slice(s) of cheese on top of bread.
- Put bowls on cookie sheet and place in oven for 10 min or possibly till cheese is melted.
- Can cut recipe in half for 2 or possibly 3.
- Great with a spinach salad!
