Savory Steak and Pepper Stir Fry
- 2 teaspoons oil
- 1 12 lbs flank steaks, thinly sliced (or use pork tenderloin)
- 18 teaspoon five-spice powder
- 1 medium red pepper, thinly sliced
- 1 medium green pepper, thinly sliced
- 1 small onion, thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce, or
- 1 tablespoon teriyaki sauce (for sweeter flavor)
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- cooked rice, for serving
- In a skillet, heat oil on medium-high until hot.
- Sprinkle steak with five-spice powder and 1/4 tsp salt; add to skillet.
- Cook 3 minutes or until just browned, stirring occasionally.
- With a slotted spoon, transfer to a bowl.
- If you're not fond of peppers, you can substitute a bag of frozen broccoli florets.
- To skillet, add peppers (florets), onion, 2 tbsp water, and a pinch of salt.
- Cover; cook 5 minutes, or until slightly softened, stirring occasionally.
- In a small bowl, whisk together sugar, soy sauce, cornstarch, 3 tbsp water and 1/4 tsp pepper until smooth.
- Add to skillet; heat to simmering.
- Simmer 1 minute or until thickened.
- Add beef and any accumulated juices to skillet.
- Cook 1 minute or until beef is heated through.
- Serve over rice.
