Savory Steak and Pepper Stir Fry

  1. In a skillet, heat oil on medium-high until hot.
  2. Sprinkle steak with five-spice powder and 1/4 tsp salt; add to skillet.
  3. Cook 3 minutes or until just browned, stirring occasionally.
  4. With a slotted spoon, transfer to a bowl.
  5. If you're not fond of peppers, you can substitute a bag of frozen broccoli florets.
  6. To skillet, add peppers (florets), onion, 2 tbsp water, and a pinch of salt.
  7. Cover; cook 5 minutes, or until slightly softened, stirring occasionally.
  8. In a small bowl, whisk together sugar, soy sauce, cornstarch, 3 tbsp water and 1/4 tsp pepper until smooth.
  9. Add to skillet; heat to simmering.
  10. Simmer 1 minute or until thickened.
  11. Add beef and any accumulated juices to skillet.
  12. Cook 1 minute or until beef is heated through.
  13. Serve over rice.
