Braised Red Cabbage

  1. Halve cabbage, remove core and shred finely.
  2. Heat oil and butter in a large.
  3. saucepan.
  4. Add onion, apple and bacon; sweat over medium heat for 5 minutes.
  5. Add cabbage; cook, stirring 5 minutes or until starting to wilt.
  6. Add remaining ingredients and simmer, covered, over medium heat for 30-40.
  7. minutes, stirring occasionally until tender.
  8. Alternatively you could cook it.
  9. in a medium oven (160C or 140C fan-forced) 40 minutes.
  10. Serve with rich red meats such as game, duck and beef, or with pork.
  11. Perfect for a dinner party.
