Penuche Coconut Bars

  1. Blend shortening and 1/2 cup brown sugar.
  2. Add 1 cup flour and the salt.
  3. Stir in milk.
  4. Pat evenly in lightly greased 9 x 9 x 2-inch pan.
  5. Bake at 325u0b0 for about 20 minutes or until light brown.
  6. Beat eggs; add 1 cup brown sugar and vanilla and beat until thick and lemon colored.
  7. Add remaining ingredients and mix well.
  8. Spread over baked crust.
  9. Bake at 325u0b0 for 20 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Cool and cut into 36 squares.
