Bavarian Beef Recipe

  1. Method
  2. Brown meat in oil in a heavy skillet.
  3. Remove meat and saute/fry onion in remaining oil till golden brown.
  4. Return meat to skillet.
  5. Add in water, caraway seeds, salt, pepper, and bay leaf.
  6. Bring to a boil.
  7. Reduce heat, cover and simmer 1-1/4 hrs.
  8. Add in vinegar and sugar; stir.
  9. Place cabbage on top of meat.
  10. Cover and simmer 45 min more.
  11. Arrange meat and cabbage on a platter and keep hot.
  12. Strain drippings and skim off fat.
  13. Add in sufficient water to drippings to yield 1 c. of liquid.
  14. Return to skillet with gingersnap crumbs.
  15. Cook and stir till thickened and mix boils.
  16. Serve with meat and vegetables.
