German'S Sweet Chocolate Cake

  1. Melt chocolate in boiling water; cool.
  2. Sift flour, soda and salt.
  3. Cream butter and sugar well.
  4. Add egg yolks one at a time, beating after each.
  5. Blend in vanilla and melted chocolate.
  6. Add flour mixture alternately with buttermilk, beating after each addition.
  7. Fold in beaten egg whites.
  8. Pour into 3 (9-inch) greased and floured layer pans.
  9. Bake at 350u0b0 for 30 to 35 minutes.
  10. Cool in pans 15 minutes.
  11. Remove and cool on rack.
