Monte Cristo Sandwich

  1. Cut crusts from bread.
  2. Beat eggs, milk, salt and pepper.
  3. Dip bread slices in mixture.
  4. Drain.
  5. Arrange some thin slices of turkey on four bread slices.
  6. Cover with slice of ham.
  7. Top with slice of cheese.
  8. Spread lightly with mustard.
  9. Cover with remaining bread.
  10. Press down well.
  11. Cut across diagonally.
  12. Heat butter in skillet.
  13. Fry sandwiches until brown and crisp; turning once.
  14. Serve with jam and powdered sugar, if desired.
