Slow Cooker Pinto Beans

  1. Sort through pinto beans for any stones or bad beans.
  2. Rinse the beans thoroughly.
  3. Put the ham hock, onion and garlic in the bottom of a slow cooker (3 to 4-quart size).
  4. Add beans to the cooker.
  5. Season with salt and pepper.
  6. Pour in water and do not stir.
  7. Cook for 6 hours on high or 10 hours on low.
  8. If water level drops below the beans, add more hot water but try not to uncover them too much.
  9. You may need to add more salt and pepper when they are cooked.
  10. Use your own judgment.
