Mel's Grilled Flank Steak
- 1 (1 1/2 lb) flank steaks
- 1 cup vegetable oil
- 12 cup brown sugar
- 12 cup soy sauce
- 14 cup red wine
- 1 tablespoon minced garlic
- 1 tablespoon minced gingerroot or 1 teaspoon ground ginger
- Trim excess fat from steak; score steak on both sides in 1 1/2 inch squares.
- Place steak in large plastic bag, and then in a shallow dish.
- Combine oil and remaining ingredients, stirring well.
- Pour over steak.
- Cover and seal.
- Marinate in refrigerator at least 8 hours.
- Drain steak, reserving marindade.
- Grill, covered, over medium coals (300-400 degrees) for 6-8 minutes on each side, or to desired doneness, basting twice with marinade.
- Discard remaining marinade.
- To serve, slice steak across the grain into thin slices.
