Molasses Cookies
- 1/3 cup of shortening
- butter
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- 2 eggs
- 2/3 cup sorghum molasses
- 3-1/2 cup all purpose flour
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 tsp. ginger powder
- 3 tbsp. white sugar
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. vanilla
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Cream shortening, sugars, and eggs.
- Add molasses.
- Beat well.
- Sift together flour, salt, soda, and spices and stir into batter.
- Add vanilla last.
- Roll 1/2 inch on floured board.
- Bake on greased cookie sheet for 8 to 10 minutes.
- Store in stone jar.
- To keep cookies soft, put slice of white bread or half an apple on top.
