Cherry Bread
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1 c. lightly packed brown sugar
- 1 beaten egg
- 2 c. presifted flour
- 2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 2/3 c. milk
- 1/3 c. syrup from red maraschino cherries
- 1/2 c. red maraschino cherries, drained and quartered
- 1/2 c. chopped walnuts
- Preheat oven to 350u0b0.
- Cream shortening and lightly packed brown sugar; add beaten egg and beat well.
- Blend or sift together flour, baking powder and salt.
- Combine milk and syrup from red maraschino cherries.
- Add dry ingredients to creamed mixture alternating with milk mixture.
- Combine after each addition but do not beat.
- Carefully fold in drained, quartered red maraschino cherries, and chopped walnuts.
- Pour into a greased 9 x 5-inch loaf pan.
- Let stand 20 minutes.
- Bake in a preheated 350u0b0 oven for 55 to 65 minutes.
