Molasses Sugar Cookies
- 3/4 cup margarine or butter, softened
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup light or dark molasses
- 1 egg
- 2 cups sifted flour
- 2 tsp. baking soda
- 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. ground cloves
- 1/2 tsp. ground ginger
- Additional sugar for rolling
- Beat margarine or butter and 1 cup sugar in large bowl with mixer at low speed until creamy.
- Add molasses and egg, beating until well blended.
- Sift together flour, baking soda, cinnamon, salt, cloves and ginger in medium bowl.
- Add to molasses mixture; mix well.
- Cover and refrigerate.
- Form dough into 1-inch balls.
- Roll balls in sugar; place on greased cookie sheets about 2 inches apart.
- Lightly sprinkle dough with sugar.
- Bake at 375F for 6 to 8 minutes or until golden brown.
- Let stand 1 minute.
- Remove cookies to wire rack to coo l.
