Barry's Marinara Sauce Recipe
- 4 Tbsp. extra virgin olive oil
- 1 lrg onion, diced
- 2 x cloves garlic, chopped
- 1/3 c. fresh basil leaves, coarsely minced
- 4 x 28-ounce. cans crushed tomatoes
- 1 x 6-ounce. can tomato paste
- 2 Tbsp. sugar Salt and pepper to taste
- In a large pot saute/fry onion and garlic in extra virgin olive oil till tender.
- Add in basil, crushed tomatoes and tomato paste.
- Add in sugar and salt to taste and simmer for several min till ready to serve.
- You may serve this sauce with your favorite pasta or possibly make pasta of your own (recipe to follow).
- This recipe is reproduced just as it was given to us.
- It results in a very tomatoey sauce.
- You can probably cut out at least one can of the tomatoes and still have a very tasty sauce.
- You may also add in a lb.
- of cooked grnd beef or possibly your favorite sauteed vegetable like zucchini or possibly mushrooms.
- If desired seafood add in steamed clams or possibly shrimp.
- As always, top with grated Parmesan or possibly Romano cheese.
- Chefs Notes: Use your favorite sugar substitute.
