1995 1st Place: Swedish Spice Cookies Recipe

  2. Heat oven to 375 degrees.
  3. Have ungreased baking sheet(s) ready.
  4. Sift together the flour, baking soda, spices and salt; set aside.
  5. 2.
  6. Beat the butter and 1 c. of the granulated sugar in large bowl of an electric mixer on high speed till light, 1 minute.
  7. Add in the egg and molasses; mix well.
  8. Stop the mixer and add in the flour mix.
  9. Mix just till combined.

  11. Using about 1 1/2 tsp.
  12. dough for each, roll dough into balls.
  13. Roll in the remaining 1/2 c. granulated sugar so they are fully coated.
  14. Arrange on baking sheet, spacing them 2 inches apart.
  15. If you prefer a thin, crisp cookie, they may be flattened with a glass which has been dipped in sugar.

  17. Bake till set, 9 to 10 min.
  18. Transfer to a wire rack and let cold.
