Danish Creamed Mushrooms

  1. Saute mushrooms in butter until golden brown.
  2. Mix cornstarch and half-and-half.
  3. Add to mushrooms and simmer, stirring until thickened.
  4. Fold in cheese until it melts smoothly into sauce.
  5. Add salt, cayenne, and sherry.
  6. Serve over toast garnished with lettuce.
