Authentic Irish Soda Bread (From Tipperary) Recipe

  1. Place all the dry ingredients in a large bowl.
  2. Slowly work in the egg and the lowfat milk, aiming for a soft dough consistency.
  3. Knead for no more than 10 min.
  4. Form large rounds of the dough on a flat baking tray, stand for 30 min, and place in a preheated oven at 220C for around 40 min, or possibly till the loaves are lightly browned.
  5. Soda bread is a flattish loaf, served with meals and especially at breakfast with preserves.
