Old Fashioned Chocolate Cake

  1. Heat oven to 350F (180C).
  2. Grease and flour two 9 inch round baking pans or one 13 x 9 x 2 inch baking pan.
  3. In large mixing bowl, combine butter, sugar, eggs and vanilla.
  4. Beat on high speed 3 minutes.
  5. Combine flour, cocoa, baking soda, baking powder and salt; add alternately with water to butter mixture.
  6. Blend just until combined.
  7. Pour into prepared pans.
  8. Bake 30 to 35 minutes or until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean.
  9. Cool 10 minutes; remove from pans.
  10. Cool completely; frost with chocolate frosting.
