Old Fashioned Chocolate Cake
- 3/4 cup butter or margarine
- 123 cups sugar
- 3 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 cups flour, all-purpose
- 23 cup cocoa powder
- 1 1/4 teaspoons baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 113 cups water
- 1 x chocolate frosting
- Heat oven to 350F (180C).
- Grease and flour two 9 inch round baking pans or one 13 x 9 x 2 inch baking pan.
- In large mixing bowl, combine butter, sugar, eggs and vanilla.
- Beat on high speed 3 minutes.
- Combine flour, cocoa, baking soda, baking powder and salt; add alternately with water to butter mixture.
- Blend just until combined.
- Pour into prepared pans.
- Bake 30 to 35 minutes or until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean.
- Cool 10 minutes; remove from pans.
- Cool completely; frost with chocolate frosting.
