Italian Bread Pizza
- 2 Tablespoons Olive Oil, Plus Extra For Drizzling
- 1 pound Sweet Italian Sausage Links
- 1 loaf Crusty Italian Bread
- 1 whole Medium Tomato Seeded And Diced
- 1 cup Mozzarella Cheese, Cubed
- 1/2 cups Swiss Cheese, Cubed
- 1/2 cups Romano (or Parmesan) Cheese, Shredded
- 2 cloves Garlic, Diced
- 1/2 cups Pizza Sauce, Optional
- Salt And Pepper, to taste
- Heat 2 tablespoons of oil over medium-high heat in a heavy skillet.
- Add sausages and brown them on all sides.
- Then add enough water into the skillet to just cover the sausages.
- Then turn heat to medium-low and simmer, covered, until cooked through (30-40 minutes).
- Preheat your ovens broiler.
- Slice the bread in half lengthwise, and scoop out all but a 1/2 inch of the inside (save the insides for another recipe or to make breadcrumbs).
- Drizzle each half lightly with olive oil, put the bread on a sheet pan and toast under the broiler until lightly browned.
- Then remove it from the oven and set aside.
- Turn the oven down to 400 F.
- When the sausage is cooked, remove it from the skillet and dice it.
- Put it into a bowl and add the tomato (seeded and diced), cheeses (cubed/shredded), garlic (diced), and if desired the pizza sauce.
- Salt and pepper to taste, and fill each half of the bread with the mixture.
- Bake for 15 minutes, or until bubbly.
