Barley Beef Burgers

  1. In a small saucepan, bring water to a boil.
  2. Stir in barley.
  3. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 8-10 minutes or until barley is tender.
  4. Remove from heat; let stand for 5 minutes.
  5. Cool slightly.
  6. In a food processor; combine onion and barley; cover and process until finely chopped.
  7. In a small bowl, combine the barbecue sauce, flour, salt, pepper and barley mixture.
  8. Crumble beef over mixture; mix well.
  9. Shape into two patties.
  10. Grill, covered, over medium heat for 5-6 minutes on each side or until meat reaches desired doneness (for medium-rare, a meat thermometer should read 145 degrees; medium, 160 degrees; well-done, 170 degrees).
  11. Serve on buns.
