Sugar Drops

  1. Preheat the oven to 375F (190C).
  2. Use ungreased baking sheets.
  3. Beat the butter with both sugars until blended.
  4. Add the eggs and vanilla and beat again.
  5. Stir the flour with the salt and baking soda; stir this mixture into the batter.
  6. Stir in the nuts or fruit.
  7. Use a tablespoon to scoop out 1 1/2 inch globs of the dough and push onto the baking sheets, leaving 2 inches between the globs.
  8. Bake for 9 to 10 minutes, or until lightly browned with no obvious white spots on the tops.
  9. Transfer to wire racks to cool.
  10. VARIATION-Substitute 12 ounces semisweet chocolate morsels for the nuts or fruit.
