Apple Ginger Strudel Recipe
- 4 c. apples thinly sliced and peeled - tossed with
- 1 Tbsp. lemon juice
- 1/2 c. golden brown raisins
- 1/3 c. grnd almonds
- 3 Tbsp. honey
- 3 Tbsp. maple syrup
- 1 tsp grated lemon rind
- 1 tsp grnd ginger
- 8 sht phyllo pastry
- 3 Tbsp. light margarine melted confectioner's sugar for garnish
- Preheat the oven to 375F.
- In a large bowl, toss the apples with the raisins, almonds, honey, syrup, lemon peel, and ginger.
- Coat a baking sheet with cooking spray.
- Place 1 phyllo leaf on the sheet, and brush it lightly with margarine.
- Top it with another leaf, and brush with a little more margarine.
- Repeat layering with 2 more leaves of dough.
- Spread half of the apple filling lengthwise along 1 side of the dough.
- Roll up all 4 layers of dough, starting at the side with the filling and ending with the seam side down.
- Repeat the entire process with the remaining 4 leaves of dough.
- Coat each strudel with cooking spray.
- Bake till lightly browned, 15 to 20 min.
- Sprinkle with the sugar, if using.
- Serve hot.
