Psycedmom's Hearty Pasta Sauce
- 12 lb hot Italian sausage
- 1 lb lean ground beef
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 6 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tablespoon dried basil
- 2 teaspoons dried oregano
- 12 ounces tomato paste
- 56 ounces diced tomatoes with juice
- 1 cup dry red wine
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- In a heavy bottomed pot over medium heat, brown sausage, ground beef, garlic, basil, and oregano until meats are no longer pink.
- Stir in tomato paste, diced tomatoes, wine, sugar, salt, and pepper until thoroughly mixed.
- Cover and simmer over very low heat for at least 2 hours (I usually go 3 - 4 hours or more).
