The Flakiest Pie Crust

  1. Heat oven to 425 degrees.
  2. In a bowl, combine flour and salt.
  3. Blend in spread with a pastry blender (2 forks work just as well).
  4. Sprinkle in ice water 1 tablespoon at a time.
  5. Shape into disc and cover with plastic wrap and chill for 20 minutes.
  6. On floured surface, roll out dough into a 12 inch circle; transfer to pie plate.
  7. Chill 20 minutes.
  8. Pierce crust with fork and line with foil.
  9. Fill pie with pie weights (dried beans and/or rice also work well).
  10. Bake 10 minutes and remove pie weights and foil.
  11. Bake an additional 10 minutes more, or until golden.
  12. Cool completely.
