White Sauce

  1. Melt butter in a saucepan over low heat; stir in flour.
  2. Stir and cook for about 2 minutes.
  3. Do not brown.
  4. Gradually stir in milk and continue cooking over low heat, stirring constantly, until sauce begins to thicken.
  5. Season with salt and pepper.
  6. For a richer sauce, add a few tablespoons of heavy cream.
