Mom's Real Easy French Bread Recipe
- 1 pkg. quick acting yeast
- 2 c. lukewarm water
- 4 c. sifted all-purpose flour
- 1 tbsp. sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- Dissolve yeast in 1 c. lukewarm water.
- While yeast softens sift flour, sugar and salt together in a large bowl, then stir in the dissolved yeast.
- Add in just sufficient of the second c. of water to hold dough together.
- Mix till have a soft rather sticky dough.
- Cover with clean cloth, set bowl in hot spot in kitchen and let rise till double in size, 2 to 4 hrs.
- When dough is high and spongy, beat down well.
- Divide in 2 parts and place each in greased 6" (round) baking dish.
- (Glass casserole perfect.)
- Cover and let rise till dough reaches top of baking dish.
- At this point preheat oven to 400 degrees, brush top of bread with melted butter (good flavor).
- Bake 1 hour at 400 degrees.
