Nut Butter Cookie Dough

  1. Follow the master holiday butter cookie recipe.
  2. Add toasted, cooled and finely ground nuts after the dry ingredients are almost incorporated.
  3. If using walnuts, pecans, or hazelnuts, add 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon and 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg to the dry ingredients.
  4. If using almonds, reduce vanilla to 3/4 teaspoon and add 3/4 teaspoon almond extract.
  5. Suggested cookies:
  6. Linzer cookies or Vienese crescents; simple cut-outs; mock thumbprints.
