Savoury Garlic Mac and Cheese

  1. Cook pasta as directed on package, omitting salt.
  2. Meanwhile, cook and stir bacon in large deep nonstick skillet on medium heat until crisp.
  3. Use slotted spoon to remove bacon from skillet; drain on paper towels.
  4. Discard drippings from skillet.
  5. Add onions to skillet; cook 5 min.
  6. or until softened, stirring frequently and adding garlic for the last minute.
  7. Drain pasta, reserving 1/3 cup cooking water.
  8. Add cream cheese product, milk and 1-1/2 cups shredded cheese to onions in skillet; cook and stir on medium-low heat 2 min.
  9. or until cream cheese is completely melted and sauce is heated through.
  10. Gradually stir in enough of the reserved cooking water until sauce is of desired consistency.
  11. Add pasta and bacon; mix lightly.
  12. Heat broiler.
  13. Spoon pasta mixture into 13x9-inch baking dish sprayed with cooking spray; top with remaining shredded cheese.
  14. Broil, 6 inches from heat, 2 min.
  15. or until golden brown.
