Spiced Pear Upside-Down Cake
- 1/3 cup firmly packed brown sugar
- 1 pear, peeled, cored and cut into 20 slices
- 1-1/2 cups flour
- 1/8 tsp. baking soda
- 3/4 tsp. ground cloves, divided
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, softened
- 1-1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 3 eggs
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1/2 cup BREAKSTONE'S or KNUDSEN Sour Cream
- 1 cup thawed COOL WHIP Whipped Topping
- Preheat oven to 325F.
- Line bottom of 9-inch round cake pan with parchment paper; spray with cooking spray.
- Sprinkle brown sugar evenly on bottom of pan.
- Arrange pear slices evenly over sugar; set aside.
- Mix flour, baking soda and 1/2 tsp.
- of the cloves; set aside.
- Beat butter and granulated sugar in large bowl with electric mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
- Stir in vanilla.
- Add flour mixture, alternately in thirds with sour cream, beating well after each addition.
- Pour batter into prepared pan.
- Bake 1 hour 10 min.
- or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
- Cool in pan 20 min.
- Invert onto cake stand or platter.
- Serve warm or cool.
- Cut into 12 slices.
- Top with whipped topping and sprinkle with the remaining cloves.
