Cheddar-Apple Bread

  1. Using an electric mixer, beat shortening on medium speed, until fluffy.
  2. Gradually add sugar, beating well.
  3. Add in egg, beating until blended.
  4. Stir in pie filling.
  5. In another bowl, combine flour and next 4 ingredients; gradually add to apple mixture alternately with milk, beginning and ending with flour.
  6. Stir well after each addition; stir in cheese and walnuts.
  7. Spoon batter into a greased 9x5 inch loafpan.
  8. Bake in a preheated 350 oven for 50 minutes or until a pick comes out clean.
  9. Cool in pan on a wire rack 10 minutes; remove bread from pan and cool completely on wire rack.
