Roasted Cabbage Rolls

  1. Core cabbage, place in microwave safe dish, add 2 tablespoons water, loosely cover with plastic wrap.
  2. Microwave at high for 9 minutes, rotating baking dish a half-turn after 5 minutse.
  3. Cover dish & let stand 15 minutes.
  4. Discard any tough dark green leaves.
  5. Remove 8 light-colored cabbage leaves.
  6. Cut off raised portion of the main vein of each leaf & set leaves aside.
  7. Finely chop enough remaining cabbage to measure 1/2 cup & set aside.
  8. Coarsely chop remaining cabbage & arrange in bottom of baking dish coated w/cooking spray.
  9. Top w/slivered onion.
  10. Bring 1 cup water to boil in small saucepan.
  11. Add rice, reduce heat to medium-low & cook 8 minutes.
  12. Drain.
  13. Preheat oven to 350.
  14. Combine 1/2 cup finely chopped cabbage, rice, apple & next 7 ingredients (apple through egg).
  15. Crumble turkey over mixture & stir until blended.
  16. Place about 1/2 cup turkey mixture in center of each cabbage leaf.
  17. Fold in edges & roll up; place rolls on top of coarsely chopped cabbage.
  18. Cut several 1/4" deep slits across top of each roll.
  19. Pour 1/4 cup water over rolls.
  20. Cover with foil & bake at 350 for 30 minutes.
  21. To prepare basting glaze, cook bacon in small saucepan over medium heat until lightly browned.
  22. Remove from heat & drain bacon (discard drippings).
  23. Return bacon to pan; stir in corn syrup and remaining ingredients.
  24. Uncover cabbage rolls, spoon 1/3 basting glaze over rolls.
  25. Bake uncovered 1 hour, basting w/glaze every 20 minutes.
