Molasses Popcorn Balls Recipe
- 3/4 c. water
- 1 1/2 c. dark molasses
- 1 1/2 c. brown sugar (firmly packed)
- 1 tbsp. vinegar
- 1/4 teaspoon baking pwdr
- 1/8 teaspoon cream of tartar
- 3/4 c. butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 3 quarts. popcorn, (lightly salted)
- Mix first six ingredients in large saucepan; place on low heat and stir till sugar is dissolved.
- Bring to boiling point and cook slowly till a small amount dropped in cool water forms soft ball.
- Add in butter and continue to cook to hard ball stage.
- Remove from heat.
- Add in vanilla and pour slowly over popcorn.
- Mix with wooden spoon.
- Form into balls about 2 1/2 inch in diameter.
- Yield: approximately 24.
