Hearty Beef Stew

  1. Coat beef with flour seasoned with salt and mustard.
  2. Cut bacon 1 inch pieces; fry in Dutch oven.
  3. Remove bacon pieces; add beef to bacon drippings.
  4. Brown beef on all sides.
  5. Add soup mix and Veg-All liquid plus water to give you 3 cups.
  6. Cover and simmer for 1 hour.
  7. Add tomato juice, sugar and barley.
  8. Cover and simmer for 45 minutes.
  9. Add bacon and Veg-All home-style vegetables.
  10. Simmer 20 minutes.
  11. Serves 6 to 8.
