Dorothy's Banana Nut Bread
- 34 cup Crisco
- 4 12 teaspoons water
- 1 12 cups sugar
- 2 eggs (whipped well)
- 3 bananas (very ripe)
- 2 tablespoons vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 cups whole wheat flour
- 12 cup buttermilk
- 1 cup walnuts (crushed)
- 1 tablespoon maple syrup
- 1 teaspoon nutmeg (freshly grated)
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- Preheat oven to 300 degrees.
- In a large bowl, mix the Crisco and sugar until smooth.
- Add vanilla and eggs and continue to blend
- Add salt and baking soda.
- Add in mashed bananas and continue to blend while adding buttermilk.
- Stir in flour and walnuts and mix thoroughly.
- Add maple syrup, nutmeg and cinnamon.
- Pour batter into glass loaf pan, leaving about 1/2 inch of space for bread to rise but adding more batter to the center (to get the dome shape).
- Place in oven and bake for 1.5 hours.
