Homemade Dried Apples for Storing
- 5 Apple
- 1 generous amount Granulated sugar
- Slice the apple into 8 mm - 1 cm thick wedges, then arrange them in a pot.
- If they are too thin, they will not stiffen after they're candied.
- Sprinkle in granulated sugar, then let sit for 2-3 hours (the apples will release moisture).
- Heat the pot, and simmer over medium heat for about 15 minutes (they will fall apart if you simmer them for too long).
- Strain for about 1 hour after they cool.
- Line a baking tray with parchment paper, then arrange the apple slices on top and bake for 40 minutes at 110C.
- Flip over the slices, then bake for another 40 minutes.
- Once they cool, let them sit at room temperature or in a cool location until they reach your desired firmness, then they are done.
- If you simmer them with the skins on in Step 3, they will turn a pretty light pink You can also use this recipe for strawberries or pineapples.
