Homemade Dried Apples for Storing

  1. Slice the apple into 8 mm - 1 cm thick wedges, then arrange them in a pot.
  2. If they are too thin, they will not stiffen after they're candied.
  3. Sprinkle in granulated sugar, then let sit for 2-3 hours (the apples will release moisture).
  4. Heat the pot, and simmer over medium heat for about 15 minutes (they will fall apart if you simmer them for too long).
  5. Strain for about 1 hour after they cool.
  6. Line a baking tray with parchment paper, then arrange the apple slices on top and bake for 40 minutes at 110C.
  7. Flip over the slices, then bake for another 40 minutes.
  8. Once they cool, let them sit at room temperature or in a cool location until they reach your desired firmness, then they are done.
  9. If you simmer them with the skins on in Step 3, they will turn a pretty light pink You can also use this recipe for strawberries or pineapples.
