Bread And Butter Pickle (My Mother's Recipe) Recipe
- 22 lg. cucumbers
- 6 lg. onion
- 6 - 7 green peppers
- 1 garlic clove
- 1/2 c. salt
- 4 quart. water
- 28 ice cubes
- 7 c. sugar
- 3 c. white vinegar
- 2 tbsp. mustard seed
- 2 tbsp. celery seed
- 2 tbsp. grnd tumeric
- Slice cucumbers, peppers, and onions; put in a large pan and cover with salt and water.
- Put ice cubes over this and let stand for 3 hrs.
- Drain and rinse.
- Mix vinegar, sugar, spices and garlic (minced); pour this mix over the vegetables.
- Bring to a boil.
- Boil one minute.
- Remove from heat and pack into sterile jars.
- Seal.
- Yield about 12 pints.
