Creamy Chayotes (Merlitons)

  1. Bring 2 qt.
  2. water to boil in large saucepan.
  3. Add chayotes; boil 6 min.
  4. or until tender.
  5. Drain chayotes, then cover to keep warm.
  6. Heat dressing in medium saucepan.
  7. Add onions and garlic; cook and stir 3 min.
  8. Add flour; stir with wire whisk until well blended.
  9. Cook 2 min., stirring constantly.
  10. Add 2% milk, evaporated milk and seasonings; mix well.
  11. Cook 3 min., stirring constantly.
  12. Reduce heat to low.
  13. Add sour cream; stir until well blended.
  14. (Do not boil.)
  15. Remove from heat.
  16. Place chayotes in serving bowl.
  17. Add the sour cream sauce; toss to coat.
