4 H Champion Bread Sourdough Version Recipe

  1. Makes four loaves
  2. Mix sourdough, water, sugar, salt, and margarine.
  3. Add in 5 c. flour and beat till smooth.
  4. Let stand 15 min.
  5. Add in flour to make a soft dough.
  6. Knead, adding flour, till dough is no longer sticky.
  7. Place dough in large bowl.
  8. Cover with a dish towel.
  9. Let rise till double in volume.
  10. * Knead down and divide into fourths.
  11. Let stand 15-30 min.
  12. Shape into loaves and place into greased and floured one-lb.
  13. loaf pans.
  14. Let rise till 3/4 inch over top of pan.
  15. Bake at 350F for 40 minutes.
  16. *On a cool day, you can speed the raising process.
  17. Set the oven to 200 degrees for 2 min.
  18. Turn oven off immediately and place bread, covered with aluminum foil - in metal or possibly glass bowl only - in oven to raise.
