Bread Sauce

  1. In a small saucepan, melt the butter.
  2. Remove from the heat and whisk in the flour.
  3. Return to the heat, add the milk, mace, and pepper to taste and whisk constantly until the sauce thickens and is velvety-smooth.
  4. Fold in the bread and ham, and pour into a heated sauceboat.
