Non-Fried Candied Sweet Potato Sticks
- 1/2 Sweet potatoes
- 1 tbsp Vegetable oil
- 1 tbsp Water
- 2 tbsp Sugar
- 1 tbsp Mirin
- 1/2 tsp Soy sauce
- 1 Black sesame seeds
- After cutting the sweet potato into 5cm thick pieces, slice them into 1cm thick pieces, and then further into 1 cm sticks.
- Soak in water for 5 minutes, strain and pat dry with a kitchen towel.
- Heat oil in frying pan, add the sweet potato sticks, and cover with a lid.
- Simmer covered for 6 to 7 minutes on low to medium heat, until the sweet potato sticks become tender.
- Shake the pan or turn the sweet potato sticks with chopsticks to avoid overcooking.
- Push a stick into the sweet potato, and if it goes through easily, wipe the oil with paper towels.
- Add ingredients( water, mirin, and soy sauce) to the pan, and coat the sweet potato sticks with the sauce on low heat.
- Cook until the sauce thickens.
- Sprinkle with black sesame seeds and then serve!
