  1. Preheat the oven to 350F.
  2. Grease a 5x9-inch pan.
  3. Peel the pears and cut the flesh into 1/4-1/2 inch slices.
  4. Make a layer in the bottom of the pan.
  5. If you are using the ginger and/or lemon juice, combine those with the pears and toss to coat.
  6. Mix all other ingredients (including cinnamon, if desired) in a large bowl.
  7. If using butter or margarine, cut them in until there are no large pieces.
  8. If using oil, add enough liquid (water, lemon juice, milk, soy milk, etc.)
  9. to make the mixture hold together into clumps (about a tablespoon).
  10. It should still be a bit grainy.
  11. Spread the granola mixture in an even layer over the pears and bake for 30-45 minutes.
  12. If you'd like the top to be brown, turn the oven up to 400F for the last ten minutes of the cooking time.
