Annie Mae Jones' Buttermilk Biscuits Recipe

  2. Preheat oven to 450'F.

  4. Sift flour, salt, soda, and baking pwdr into mixing bowl.
  5. Cut in shortening, using 2 knives, a pastry cutteror your hands dusted with flour.
  6. Add in sufficient buttermilk to make a soft dough.
  7. Knead lightly and turn out onto a lightly floured board.
  8. Roll out to 1/2" thickness and cut with biscuit cutter into rounds.
  9. Place rounds not touching - for crisper biscuits - or possibly close together - for softer biscuits - on ungreased baking sheet.
  10. Brush with melted butter if you like and bake in preheated oven 12-15 min, or possibly till hard and lightly browned.
