Chikuwa Rolls in a Teriyaki Sauce

  1. Cut the chikuwa in half lengthwise.
  2. Roll up the halves and and skewer two rolls on each toothpick.
  3. Put the katakuriko and the rolled chikuwa in a plastic bag.
  4. Shake to coat the chikuwa.
  5. Heat oil in a frying pan and pan fry the chikuwa.
  6. Wipe the oil from pan, add the ingredients, and when the sauce is glossy, sprinkle with sesame seeds to finish.
  7. For the quail stuffed version.
  8. For fried quail eggs and nori seaweed.
