Pearl Onion Gratin
- 1 bag frozen small whole onions
- 1 package white sauce mix*
- 2 tbsp. margarine or butter
- 1/2 c. plain dried bread crumbs
- 13 c. grated Romano cheese
- 1/4 tsp. dried thyme leaves
- .13 tsp. crushed red pepper
- .13 tsp. ground nutmeg
- Chopped parsley for garnish
- Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. In 3- to 4-quart saucepan, prepare onions as label directs.
- Drain onions in colander; set aside.
- In same saucepan, prepare white sauce as label directs.
- Stir in onions.
- Transfer onion mixture to shallow 1- to 1 1/2-quart casserole.
- Meanwhile, in small microwave-safe bowl, melt margarine in microwave oven on High 30 to 45 seconds.
- Stir in bread crumbs, Romano, thyme, crushed red pepper, and nutmeg.
- Spoon bread-crumb mixture evenly over onion mixture.
- Bake, uncovered, 35 to 40 minutes or until edge bubbles and top browns slightly.
- Garnish with parsley.
