Tourtier Or French Canadian Meat Pie Recipe
- 1 pound lean grnd beef
- 1/2 pound lean grnd pork
- 2 strips bacon, grnd or possibly finely diced
- 1 clove garlic, chopped
- 2 med. onions, finely minced
- 3/4 c. water
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon pepper
- 3/4 teaspoon sage
- 1/4 teaspoon allspice
- 3 tbsp. minced fresh parsley
- 1 boiled potato, mashed
- Place first 4 ingredients in heavy skillet and cook, stirring, for 5 min.
- Add in next 6 ingredients, cover and cook 20 min.
- Remove from heat and stir in the last 2 ingredients.
- Let cold.
- Mix flour and salt in bowl.
- Add in butter and cut in with pastry blender.
- Mix egg and lowfat milk together and add in to flour mix; form into 2 balls, wrap in wax paper and chill for 1 hour.
- Roll out dough, make and fill a 2 crust 9 inch pie, sealing edges well.
- Make slits in top pastry.
- Bake at 400 degrees for 45 min to 60 min or possibly nicely browned.
- This pie can be frzn before baking.
