Cheesy Italian Sloppy Joes
- 2 Tablespoons Olive Oil
- 1 cup Chopped Onion
- 2 cloves Garlic, Minced
- 1/2 cups Chopped Green Bell Pepper
- 1 stalk Celery, Chopped
- 1/2 teaspoons Dried Oregano
- 1/2 teaspoons Dried Basil
- 1 pound Ground Beef
- 1 pound Ground Italian Sausage
- 1 can (28 Oz. Size) Fire Roasted Tomatoes With Liquid
- 2 Tablespoons Red Wine Vinegar
- 1 Tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce
- 1 teaspoon Brown Sugar
- Salt And Pepper, to taste
- 8 slices Aged Provolone Cheese
- 8 Hoagie Or Sub Rolls
- 8 slices Mozzarella Cheese
- Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add onion, garlic, green bell pepper, celery and oregano and basil.
- Saute for 5 minutes, or until onion is tender.
- In the same skillet with the veggies over medium high heat, combine ground beef and sausage and saute for 10 minutes, or until well browned.
- Add tomatoes, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce and brown sugar and mix well.
- Continue to cook until liquid reduces by half.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Place a slice of provolone on each roll top with meat then top with mozzarella.
- Place sandwiches in a 13x9 baking dish.
- Bake at 350 degrees F until bread is crusty and cheese is melted.
