Turtle Layer Cake

  1. At low speed beat cake mix, buttermilk, oil and eggs for 30 seconds.
  2. Increase speed to medium-high; beat 2 minutes.
  3. Toss 1 cup chopped candies with cocoa; stir into batter.
  4. Divide batter into two 9 inch round cake pans coated with cooking spray.
  5. Bake 30 minutes at 350 degrees.
  6. Cool on racks 20 minutes.
  7. Remove from pans.
  8. Cool completely.
  9. Frosting:.
  10. At high speed beat ceram until thickened.
  11. Reduce speed to low; beat in caramel topping.
  12. Increase speed to medium; beat until stiff peaks form.
  13. Stir chopped candy into frosting.
  14. Place 1 cake layer on plate; spread with frosting mixture.
  15. Top with remaining layer.
  16. Spread top and side of cake with whipped cream.
  17. Garnish with candies, if desired.
