Walnut and Syrup Loaf
- 4 oz. Granulated Sugar
- 6 oz. Golden Syrup
- 2 oz. sultanas
- 8 oz. Self Raising Flour
- 1 dash salt
- 2 chopped walnuts
- 1 egg beaten
- 1/ Grease a 2lb loaf tin, or use a greaseproof tin liner.
- Heat sugar, syrup, milk and sultanas in a saucepan.
- Stir until sugar dissolves.
- Allow to cool.
- 2/ Mix flour and salt in a bowl.
- Add chopped walnuts.
- Add sugar mixture and egg.
- Beat together.
- Put in prepared tin and bake in the middle of the pre-heated oven for about one hour.
- 180 degrees Celsius.
- 350 degrees Fahrenheit or Gas Mark 4.
- It is cooked when a skewer inserted in the centre comes out clean.
- 3/ Remove from the tin and cool on a wire rack.
- 4/ The cake improves with keeping.
- It becomes nice and moist.
- Serve sliced, spread with butter.
